The Radial Midwater Trawl is designed to achieve a very large herding area with a lower towing resistance than conventional nets. This is achieved by incorporating graduated mesh sizes rather than traditional front end meshes cut with tapers. Graduated mesh sizes provide equal load tensioning of every mesh in the trawl front end resulting in less damage when an obstruction is encountered. Traditional tapered front ends provide very unequal load tensioning to the bars going into the riblines resulting in unnecessary damage.
Equal tension on every mesh creates a very sleek and uniform trawl shape that cannot be duplicated with conventional trawl designs. The Radial successfully targets Pollock, Whiting, Hoki and other Pelagic species Globally.
